He was born on the 27th of October, 1952 in Ganja. After finishing secondary school in 1969, he entered Higher Artillery School in Tbilisi. In 1973, after completing his at above mentioned Artillery school, he continued his education at the Artillery Academy of St Petersburg.

R. Asadov was in the limited part of the contingent of the SOVIET Forces, serving in Afghanistan, Vietnam and Hungary. During his service in those countries, he was promoted from the rank of lieutenant to the colonel.

 1991 was the year when stormy clouds appeared over the Azerbaijani skies. The young officer returned home with the behest of his heart and became part of the just emerging National Army. Thanks to his knowledge and skills he was one of few who helped to create modern anti-aircraft batteries of artillery. Colonel Rafael Asadov was appointed as a commander of Artillery Corps. He was the organizer and active participant of military operations in the war zones, such as; Tovuz, Gadabay, Aghdam, and Goranboy. He successfully led most of the fights. When he was preparing for the regular operational control of the combat positions a projectile exploded in the nearby vicinity of Agstafa region ending his life on the 12th of November 1992.

He was married and had two children.

 Asadov Rafael Avaz posthumously received the honorary title of the "National Hero of Azerbaijan" by the decree # 202 of the president of the Azerbaijan Republic dated on the 16th of September 1994.

 He was buried in the alley of Martyrs in Baku.
